1. Pple who wanna communicate realtime with other pple by geographical locations. Let me explain this. Tonic pls correct me if I'm wrong. For eg I wanna noe more abt Greenwich Village New York, so I can log on n chat with pple staying in Greenwich Village to ask them realtime abt the weather there, political stability, where's gd food n music etc. Time zone difference is a prob here though, coz most likely S'poreans n Americans wun be free at the same tum.
2. Pple who wanna preview the world, with their butts stuck on the chair. Essentially the internet is already such a tool but the prob with the internet is you can onli roam the world by keywords (eg. gd restaurants in London, art galleries in Shanghai). N in order to "visit" many places u gotta go to many websites n open many windows, by the tum which ur internet browser will be cluttered with tabs.
Wat we can do is let pple roam the world, again by geographical locations. Imagine I wanna roam London, I can drag, scroll, zoom in zoom out an interactive map of London accurate to the street n shop level. Then I can "walk into" every shop by clicking on it n all info abt the shop (food menu, events, promotions, photos etc) will appear on a new page. When I'm done, I can juz "walk out" of the shop by closing the page n go back to the map. So u can roam the world in one website - ours. What's impt is all these info will be provided by the shop owners themselves n they will design their own pages. Every shop will wanna do this coz if u dun, it's like closing ur shop on a wkend when every other shop in the same area is open.
Sorry for the long post but it's hard to explain in a few sentences. Now tum to talk abt money. I think this is gonna be an ambitious project. I've found out that big successful projects like facebook, MySpace, google etc all had millions of dollars of funding from Venture Capitalists, pple who give u the money simply coz they believe in ur idea making more money for them. I guess that's the direction we gotta head towards. Comments time!

lets take this a step at a time. For now nobody will bother about us if we have nothing but ideas. The things that people want are great in future if we want to develop our site further. For now what are the basic things that will get people interested? What are the core things we need to have in the webby?
For now we can concentrate on a few mentalities of the mass. Such as getting their comments heard, and interact with people of common interests. So in our initial site, we need to have a platform for people to interact with people, preferably realtime. Perhaps for now we go with geographical segmentation such that if people wanna post something about their country, they should be able to click right into the specific area where the subject matter is and post it there. Any other things about the site you guys discussed?
firstly i think not true that nobody will bother abt us if we got nothing but ideas leh... in fact venture capitalists invest in nothing but ideas. i get wat u mean by needing to have something concrete, but wat is impt is the radical idea. n i suspect that the software required to realize that idea is beyond our skills n budget. so for now we gotta come up with this idea b4 we see if wat r the technical skills n budget required to set up a website to realize that idea. for eg, pls check out google maps, google local business centre n microsoft virtual earth. coz i think the ideas i mentioned in my last post have been done by them.
as for the mentalities, we cannot simply provide existing things like sharing comments, interest gps etc. for they have been been absorbed by facebook coz it's so comprehensive n sophisticated. we can have them onli to complement the radical idea of ours. if not really can't fight with these big guys, coz web 2.0 is really a world abt ideas.
Correct me if im wrong what the idea is now is to have a REALLY good search engine in the internet that is more interactive in a sense that it allows you to interact with people with knowledge of the subject interest. (Because the idea of the internet already is for people who wanna preview the world with their butts stuck on the chair)
You are now making it easier for them to locate shops and their objective through a virtual map. I guess shopowners in this case dont have to design another webpage oredi mah.. they just have to link it to our "map".
What happen to the "by locals" concept in this case? Can i say that the core strategy has changed?
of cos those without a website we can have functions that allow them to create one in our map.
Sorry for the super slow reply coz I've been really bz for the past 2 wks. My concern at this stage is that we still do not have that radical idea that is worth investing in. Our initial "by locals" idea has been done by Yahoo!Local. My latest idea of having the virtual map with business listings has been done by Google Maps n Local Business Center. As for Tonic's idea of the realtum interaction by geographical location, we can discuss further to understand its potential.
Anw my pt is that coz web 2.0 is mainly abt ideas, we need that fundamentally different idea to succeed instead of trying to compete by coming up with a better version of the same idea. Which is kinda like wat Friendster, Multiply etc is trying to do. Then ultimately Facebook comes out n kills all of them. Meaning if pple have thot of cars, we need to think of a plane n not a better car.
